As of 01 June 2019, all plastic carrier bags, regardless of their thickness, will be prohibited from import. Therefore burns export, manufacture, sale, storage, supply, or use in Mainland Tanzania.
The Government of Tanzania wishes to make an official note to travelers planning to visit Tanzania from 1st June 2019. All plastic carrier bags regardless of their thickness will be prohibited from being imported, exported in Tanzania.
We advise our guests and all visitors to avoid the use of plastic carrier bags either in their suitcase or as part of their hand luggage when visiting Tanzania. A special desk will be assigned at all entry points for the surrender of plastic carrier bags brought into Tanzania.
